Originally a Rhone Valley creation, this blend has been pioneered in Australia by the legendary Tim Kirk of Clonakilla, and the success that he has had has spawned a legion of winemakers endeavouring to put their own stamp on Shiraz Viognier. It is an up-and-comer, and with good reason: typically, even the smallest addition (sometimes as low as 3-4%) of Viognier to a straight Shiraz can add a floral lift and a brightness that creates an extra dimension in the wine. Our Shiraz Viognier is from one of the best producers of the blend in the Yarra Valley- it is a very fine example of the style, showing a deep magenta colour in the glass, a nose of raspberries and violets, and a very long palate of raspberries, blackberries, a hint of cedar from the restrained use of oak, and very fine-grained tannins. A youthful and exuberant wine with years of life in it.
